Diungkapkan Pak Yes dihadapan Mentan Syahrul Yasin Limpo usai melakukan panen raya sorgum, saat ini luas tanam sorgum mencapai 200 hektar yang tersebar di dua kecamatan, yakni 190 hektar di Kecamatan Babat dan 10 hektar di Sugio.

Sementara dalam rangka akselerasi peningkatan hasil produksi sorgum. Pada tahun 2023 Pemkab Lamongan akan mengembangkan kawasan khusus sorgum seluas 3.000 hektar yang tersebar di lima kecamatan yakni Sugio, Pucuk, Kedungpring, Sukodadi dan Babat melalui pendekatan dan penerapan Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) dan Good Handling Practices (GHP).

“Kami menyadari bahwa pengembangan diversifikasi produk pertanian sebagai langkah inovatif bukanlah sesuatu yang mudah. Mulai dari benih, pupuk dan pengolahan hasil produk sorgum terutama penyosoh, penepung dan juga beberapa komponen pengolahan hasil lainnya harus benar-benar disiapkan.

Termasuk ketersediaan pasar industri dan stabilitas harga harus kita jaga bersama. Di balik tantangan tersebut Lamongan sangat berpeluang untuk dikembangkan sebagai kawasan diversifikasi produk pangan sorgum,” ucap Pak Yes.

Menurutnya kualitas rasa sorgum sangat enak bahkan dapat dijadikan sebagai pengganti gandum.

“Jujur saya baru merasakan tadi sorgum enak sekali. Oleh karena itu Pak Bupati saya terima kasih sudah mencanangkan sorgum untuk di budidayakan dan saya lihat dalam road map, ada 1.000 hektar sampai 3.000 hektar kalau masih ada lahan lagi tambah sampai 10.000 pak, pasti bisa,” ucapnya.

Sebagai bentuk dukungan, Mentan mengajak seluruh pihak untuk membantu mengembangkan sorgum di Kabupaten Lamongan. Termasuk perbankan untuk bersama-sama memfasilitasi sehingga pengembangan kawasan sorgum ini dapat terwujud.

“Pak Dirjen Saya mau sorgum di Lamongan ini jadikan bibit semua ya, masa padi melulu jagung melulu ayo kita kembangkan variasi-variasi yang lebih enak. Bahkan popcorn dari sorgum lebih enak. Sorgum itu adalah tanaman nenek kita kalau masih sayang nenek tanam sorgum,” tuturnya.

Melihat banyaknya impor gandum selama ini, Mentan juga mengajak masyarakat mulai beralih untuk menggunakan bahan lokal seperti olahan sorgum ini.
